How it works

The quiz

Each round shows a sentence in German or English with one word highlighted. Type only the translation of that highlighted word — not the whole sentence.

Die Herausforderung war größer als erwartet.

→ Type: challenge

Answer tips

  • Articles don't matter — der / die / das / ein / eine / the / a are ignored
  • Case-insensitive — Challenge and challenge are both correct
  • The infinitive to prefix is optional — influence and to influence are both accepted
  • Placeholders are ignored — skip sth, sb (English) and etw., jdn., jdm. (German)
  • Alternatives count — for viel etw. / eine Menge etw. either viel or Menge is accepted
  • Inflected forms are accepted — ran, running, runs are all accepted for run
  • Trailing punctuation is ignored

Directions

Questions alternate randomly between German → English and English → German. The direction label at the top of each card tells you which way to translate.

Buttons

Reveal — show the answer. Tracked as wrong so the word comes back soon.
Skip — move on without answering. Tracked as wrong so skipped words stay frequent.
Too easy — on the result screen. Mutes the word for you (only you); it won't appear again. Unmute anytime on the Stats page.
Report — on the result screen. Flag a wrong word or odd sentence for review — no screenshot needed.

Buckets

Every word lives in one of three buckets. Words you answer correctly move up; wrong answers move a word back.

New — just introduced, appears most often (50%)
Learning — getting there, medium frequency (35%)
Known — solid, appears less often (15%) so you still review it

Streak

Practice at least once every day to keep your streak growing. One missed day is forgiven — only two missed days in a row reset the streak to 1.
